Afilias Limited (.info) - .INFO was the first new and completely unrestricted gTLD made available since .COM. It was launched by Afilias Limited in 2001 and continues to remain the most successful of the new TLDs with over 3.4 million registrations and over 800,000 live, dedicated Web sites.

.INFO is the first truly global domain suffix. With an informational and educational feel, .INFO is the most intuitive place for Internet users to seek information.

Over two thirds of .INFO Web sites are active, including over 800,000 live, unique sites. .INFO is also a popular alternative for international audiences: over 50% of .INFO's registrations are from outside the US. This is a sharp contrast to .COM, where over 69% of registrations are from US companies.

.INFO services a global audience left out by the legacy domains.

Not only are top brands like Subaru and Mercedes taking advantage of the new .INFO domain, but others who have an interest in sharing information with the world have quickly caught on to .INFO.

If you are a business that was unable to get your .COM address-or you have one that is too long and complicated -- or an organization whose business is based in information services, .INFO can benefit you. In the Information Age, the Internet has empowered customers to make better-informed product purchases and life choices. Here are just a few of those already adopting .INFO as the place where the world will go to find information about them on the Internet: NY Metropolitan Transit Authority www.mta.info, NY State Attorney General's Office World Trade Center Relief Site www.wtcrelief.info, Association of Drug Action Teams in Scotland www.knowthescore.info, National Cyber Security Alliance www.staysafeonline.info.  Tulane University, New Orleans, LA www.southerninstitute.info

Traditionally the top-level domains of the Internet serve different user groups. The .ORG domain was designated as an "open, unrestricted" domain, one in which anyone could register. It has evolved into the domain used primarily for noncommercial endeavors around the world. It is the place where people build Web sites encompassing a wide range of noncommercial activity, including education, philanthropy, personal projects, arts and culture, community and civic activities, social and fraternal organizations, and much more. .ORG is the Internet's third largest "generic" or non-country specific top-level domain with over 3 million domain names registered worldwide.

On January 1, 2003, the Public Interest Registry (PIR), a 501 (c ) 3 not-for-profit corporation, became the new .ORG registry operator. PIR's mission is to manage the .ORG Domain in an exemplary manner, while educating and empowering the global non-commercial community to utilize the Internet more effectively, and, concurrently, to take a leadership position among Internet stakeholders on policy and related issues on behalf of the .ORG community.
